Love Always Letter Project

Words From the Heart

Writing allows us to express emotions that are often difficult to say out loud. It offers a gentle way to process grief, express heartfelt gratitude, share a warm memory, or simply honor a love that endures.

The Love Always Letter Project exists to give those meaningful words a home.

Here, you can read honest letters shared by people across our community—some written to someone they miss, others to someone in their life today, and some to their younger selves who needed extra support.

Letters From the Heart

Read letters shared by our community—words of love, remembrance, gratitude, reflection, and hope.

To My Son in Heaven

Dear Sam,

It’s been three years since you left this world. I miss you every single day. I can still see your face and your blue eyes. I can still hear your voice. It felt like time had stopped for me, but the world kept going for everyone else. I know without a doubt that you are at peace and free from all your pain. You would always say to me, “remember if anything happens to me, just know that I am at peace.”

I think God finally gave you the peace that you couldn’t find here on Earth. I am so sorry that you had to suffer for so may years. I would have done anything to have taken that pain away from you. I never gave up hope. You thought you were weak. You were never weak. It takes incredible strength to endure the pain you carried everyday. Sometimes I try and imagine what life would be like for you if mental illness didn’t take over. I think you would be married and have the family that you always wanted. You would have been a great dad.

You taught me how to love deeply and feel loved. You meant the world to me and you still do. A close bond like ours can never be broken. Thank you for all the signs you send me. Keep sending them. I will love you and miss you always. You are forever in my heart.

Love,

Mom

To My Younger Self,

I wish I could wrap my arms around you on those quiet, heavy nights when the world felt entirely too big and too cold.

I know how hard those days were. I remember how exhausting it was to carry the weight of feeling like you didn't fit in anywhere—like everyone else had been given a handbook for belonging that you somehow missed. You spent so much energy wondering if you were too much, or never enough, and secretly fearing that things would always feel this hard. You thought you’d never find your way, and you wondered if "better" was just something that happened to other people.

Looking back at you now, my heart aches with so much tenderness. You were so young. You were trying so hard to survive feelings that were far too heavy for your shoulders to carry alone.

If I could speak to you then, I would tell you this: give yourself grace. Be gentle with the version of you that is still learning, still hurting, and just trying to figure it out. You don't have to have everything solved right now.

You are going to make it through those dark places. There is so much beautiful, vibrant life waiting for you on the other side of the pain you’re carrying today. Your story isn't over—it’s actually just beginning. Your life is still unfolding in ways you can't even imagine yet.

Don't isolate yourself in the dark. Reach out to the people who care about you. Let them in, even when it feels scary. Speak up when you’re hurting, hold onto the ones who show up for you, and keep giving love away freely. The love you share with others will become the very thing that lights up your darkest corners.

You belong here. You always have. Hold on—the best chapters of your life are still ahead.

With endless love and grace,

Your Future Self
